Skip Prosser Scholarship

Camouflage Kids lost one of its biggest supporters in Coach Skip Prosser of Wake Forest University on July 26, 2007. 

Skip had great passion for the military and always found his way to Northern Indiana to support the fundraising efforts of Camouflage Kids.

In 2007, a short five weeks before his death, Skip gave an inspirational speech at our June barbecue recounting his trip overseas with the USO-Operation Hardwood IV Tour.

Skip coached his team to the championship at Camp Arifjan in Kuwait in May. Sadly, it would be the last game Skip would ever coach.

On April 4, 2008, Notre Dame's Mike Brey was named the inaugural recipient of the Skip Prosser Man of the Year Award.

A long-time friend of Jeff Nix and fellow assistant coach at Xavier (OH), Skip's presence on and off the basketball court will be greatly missed.

Camouflage Kids, through the generous support of our friends and fellow coaches, has established a scholarship program in memory of Skip.

Camouflage Kids has teamed up with the Fisher House Foundation to provide six (6) scholarships in the amount of $1,500 each to be awarded in 2009 to high school seniors who are children of our military (living or deceased) to be used at the school of their choice for higher education (four year, two year, and/or technical college).

Through the Scholarships For Military Children program, we have designated the children at Fort Bragg in North Carolina (home to Wake Forest University) to benefit this year in memory of Skip. Information on how to apply for these scholarships can be found below by clicking on the logo:

Skip Prosser epitomized all that was good about college athletics. He was loyal, dedicated and committed to being a teacher. Prosser was a family man through and through. He was a guy with great morals, ideal to be around young people.

He went overseas to coach the troops in a special, special USO Tour. That's the kind of guy he was, always helping people. They don't get any nicer than Prosser.

We lost one of the best coaches and best people in our sport with the passing of Skip Prosser. Skip was ultimately respected for his coaching ability, his quick humor and, most importantly, for being a quality person. We lost him far too soon.

Not this time, folks.

If I could be objective about the passing of Skip Prosser, I would not be typing through tears. Prosser, the head basketball coach at Wake Forest, was as fine a person as I -- or you, or anyone you know -- will ever meet. And he is gone, with no warning. How does one remain objective about such a thing?
